Health Testing
We health test all our dogs to make sure that any puppies that we produce are as healthy as they can be so that you can rest easy knowing that your pup is not predisposed to any unforeseen genetic health issues.
All health testing reports are available on the Meet Our Dogs page
Adult Health testing includes:
OFA certification once 2 years of age
Results can be looked up on their database at https://ofa.org/advanced-search/
Embark DNA testing
OFA CEAR testing with ophthalmologist at Upstate Veterinary Specialists in Greenville, SC
Yearly checkup/vaccines with full bloodwork with their regular veterinarian.
Washington State University MDR1 test (https://prime.vetmed.wsu.edu/)
Veterinary Genetic Laboratory at UC Davis and/or PawPrint Genetics for Merle SINE Length
These tests are required by the United States Australian Shepherd Association (USASA) as shown here: https://s3.amazonaws.com/cdn-origin-etr.akc.org/wp-content/uploads/2023/02/21145937/Australian-Shepherd-USASA-Health-Statement.pdf
Below are the logos from two parent clubs for Australian Shepherds that dictate the health testing required for breeders. They also have several articles on breeders and breed temperament.
We are currently not members of these clubs but it is a work in progress.
